2006 Peeling Statistics

1 January 2007
United States Croquet Association, West Palm Beach, Florida, USA
by Leo Nikora

Danny Huneycutt of North Carolina was the top International Croquet peeler in the United States in 2006. Huneycutt did 28 peels in 68 games, and 64% of his wins were by peels.

In croquet, it's hard enough to drive your own ball through a hoop, but even more difficult to drive another ball through a hoop by hitting the other ball with your own ball. Such a maneuver is call a peel.

A triple peel in croquet is similar to a grand slam in baseball. A baseball player hitting a grand slam drives three other players home, and scores a run himself. A croquet player doing a triple peel peels his partner ball through its last three hoops, and pegs out both balls.

The peeling statistics track triple peels and higher (quadruple peels, quintuple peels, sextuple peels, etc.), as well as triple peels of opponents. A triple peel of opponent is accomplished when a player peels an enemy ball through its last three hoops, and pegs out the enemy ball.

A summary of the peeling statistics for United States players in International Croquet tournaments is shown below. For the complete peeling statistics, see the Croquet Records Site.
