Congratulations to Mark McInerney from Ireland who yesterday became the first player not from Egypt to win the Golf Croquet World Championship.
Mark, a wild card entry who has twice before reached the semi-finals, played brilliantly all week. In the course of winning the title, he had to beat the 2004, 2006 and 2008 champions.
Mark beat Hisham Aboesbaa (EGY) in the final - Hisham wins a WCF silver medal. WCF bronze medals were received by the two other semi-finalists: Ahmed Nasr (EGY) and Hamish McIntosh (NZ).
Ben Rothman (USA) won the Plate event.
Congratulations to Mark, Hisham, Ahmed, Hamish and Ben.
The WCF would like to thank the Hurlingham Club and Surbiton Croquet Club for staging such an excellent event, and John Spiers and Tim King for arranging and managing this complex event so well. Finally, congratulations to the 64 competitors from 18 countries who took part.
