Green Gables Invitational Won by Tim Rapuano, and Murray Pollock9-12 July 2009 The 2009 Green Gables Invitational was held July 9 - 12 at the club's home in Sea Girt, NJ. There were four lawns — two full and two half and the tournament featured four flights of singles and Waterford doubles. The opening party was at the beautiful home of Dick and Barbara Nelson, Thursday night was dinner at the Bath and Tennis Club and Saturday night was outside at Carol Neves' beautiful home. Sunday finished with courtside lunch following all four singles finals. The weather was gorgeous throughout. In Championship Flight Singles very rapidly improving Tim Rapuano went undefeated as a 3.5 handicap including beating two 1.5 handicaps and two 2s. He was lowered to a 3 retroactive to the beginning and still picked up 33 tracking points at this new level. Look for Tim to continue to improve as a championship player. He beat the top seed Murray Pollock in the finals. In Championship Doubles (where there were no doubles finals in any flight — just block results) Murray Pollock won. In First Flight Singles two strong 6 handicap players in Ken Northrup and Jim Wyer had a good battle with Ken outlasting Jim to take first. Both these players picked up 24 tracking points and fellow 6 Ellen Hall picked up 20 points. Jerry Luecke won doubles. In Second Flight Singles 7 handicap Bill Cole won the singles picking up 15 tracking points while Jack Montgomery won the doubles. Third Flight Singles had Ralph Riedel (10) winning singles picking up 13 tracking points to boot. Barbara Nelson (13) helped herself getting 17 points while she also won the doubles. Special thanks to Co-Chairs Connie McQuade and Brenda Pollock and all the club members who did so much to make this an enjoyable and memorable event. Ted Prentis was the scheduler and Bob Kroeger the TD. Final Order
