Seniors/Masters Championships Won by Ted Knopf and Mik Mehas

National Croquet Center, West Palm Beach, FL

As is always the case, this year’s Seniors/Masters drew players from throughout both the country and Canada. There were 68 competitors, to be exact, spread out within five flights of singles and three of doubles. The age of sixty earned entrance into the Seniors division while those 70 or above fell into the Masters portion of the draw. Doubles combined the two, as did the Second Flight singles.

Weather throughout the entire event was wonderful, as was the spirit exhibited by the players. And play they did. Block play leading to single elimination ladders was the format, the twist being that after three days of battle, almost everyone made the Playoffs. Eight courts were used and games were timed at 75 minutes. Double banking, due to the large entry, infested even a handful of doubles matches.

On the social side, warm and very well prepared lunches highlighted each day. The Player’s Dinner, held at the NCC, was followed the next night by the Hall of Fame affair, Bob Chilton serving as this year’s honoree. Bob, in his usual dry fashion, had the crowd on the floor with laughter as he accepted the award
