USCA Unveils Official Logo for 2027 Semicentennial

The United States Croquet Association is pleased to introduce the official logo that will represent its 2027 Semicentennial celebration, marking fifty years of organized croquet in America.

Founded in 1977, the United States Croquet Association established a national governing body for croquet in the United States, developing standardized rules, handicapping systems, national championships, and a growing network of affiliated clubs across the country.

The winning design was created by Cecil Creasey of Richmond, Virginia and selected through a fully anonymous national logo competition conducted by the USCA Semicentennial Planning Committee. All submissions were evaluated without identifying information so that each design could be judged solely on its visual strength, symbolism, and suitability for representing the Association's 50th anniversary.

After the final selection was made, the identity of the winning designer was revealed to the committee.

Creasey's design combines several visual elements that reflect both the tradition and forward momentum of croquet. At the center of the mark stands the familiar croquet wicket, one of the sport's most recognizable symbols. The red wicket carries a subtle meaning within the game itself: in American six-wicket croquet it represents rover, the final wicket and the completion of a successful course.

Passing through the wicket is a croquet ball in motion. Its sweeping arc suggests vitality, energy, and forward movement as the USCA looks ahead to the next fifty years of croquet in America.

"The design captures several elements that make croquet such a distinctive sport," said John Craddock, Secretary of the USCA and Chair of the Semicentennial Planning Committee. "The wicket immediately signals croquet itself, while the red rover wicket subtly represents completion of the course. The motion of the ball conveys energy and forward momentum as the USCA looks ahead to its next half-century."

Following its selection, the final logo preserves Creasey's winning design while incorporating minor technical refinements to ensure consistent reproduction across digital media, print publications, embroidery, lapel pins, and commemorative items.

This mark will represent the United States Croquet Association throughout its Semicentennial celebrations in 2027 and will become the visual signature of the Association's 50th anniversary.

Over the coming months, members will begin seeing the Semicentennial logo across USCA communications, tournaments, apparel, and special materials as the Association prepares to celebrate fifty years of croquet in America.

Meet the Designer

The couple are known for their signature striped socks, worn whenever they compete together as doubles partners.

Cecil Creasey is a longtime croquet enthusiast from Richmond, Virginia. He earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the College of William & Mary and practiced law in Virginia for many years before retiring from full-time practice in 2021.

Croquet has been part of his life since childhood backyard games with family and friends. In 1990 he and his mother captured first place in the Monument Avenue Centennial Croquet Tournament in Richmond, defeating hundreds of competitors.

Today Cecil and Susan compete in tournaments throughout the United States and Canada and remain active members of the croquet community.

A Symbol for the Next Fifty Years

The USCA Semicentennial will celebrate fifty years of national leadership in croquet, including the development of tournament play, national championships, club growth, and the continued expansion of the sport across the United States.

For players and clubs across the country, this mark will become a shared symbol of the USCA's first fifty years and the future of croquet in America.

With this mark, the United States Croquet Association begins the celebration of its first fifty years and the next chapter of croquet in America.

About the Semicentennial Logo Competition

The USCA Semicentennial Logo Competition was conducted during 2025–2026 as part of the Association's preparations for its 50th anniversary in 2027. Submissions were evaluated anonymously by the USCA Semicentennial Planning Committee, and the winning design was selected in 2026.

The final logo was unveiled to the membership in March 2026.
